Meet the Team
Mr. Russell has served as Managing Director of MassMutual Ventures, since its formation in July, 2014. Prior to that, he also served as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development from 2009 to 2017. Mr. Russell joined MassMutual in 2007, as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer for the company’s Retirement Income unit, and has 30 years of broadly diversified experience in the financial services industry.
Prior to MassMutual, Mr. Russell was Senior Vice President and Head of Client Services for Prudential Retirement, a post he held from 2004 through the firm’s acquisition of CIGNA’s Retirement and Investment Services business, which he joined in 2001 as Senior Vice President in its Corporate Insurance unit. Mr. Russell, from 1995-2001, was with Aetna Inc./ING Financial Services, primarily with the company’s Aetna International, Inc., business, including more than two years as its CFO, and three years as the CEO overseeing Aetna Philippines in Manila.
Mr. Russell received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Brown University, and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
Eric Emmons is a Managing Director of MassMutual Ventures. He has invested in enterprise software, financial services, benefits technology, data analytics, energy, and materials companies.
Prior to starting MassMutual Ventures, Mr. Emmons served as head of Siemens Venture Capital North America and led venture and growth investments in enterprise and industrial software companies. Before joining Siemens Venture Capital, he was co-founder and managing partner at the Massachusetts Green Energy Fund, where he led many of its materials technology and software investments.
His investments include TOA Technologies (acq. Oracle), Powerit Solutions, Protonex (acq. Ballard Power), Porogen (acq. Grasys), Picwell, PolicyGenius, IEX Group, and Limelight Health. In the late 1990s, Mr. Emmons was also on the founding team at Enmed, Inc., a venture-backed startup developed Saas-based clinical trial management software for the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries (acq. Megasoft). Mr. Emmons has also held management consulting positions with Mercer Management Consulting and L.E.K. Consulting.
Mr. Emmons holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
As Managing Director of MassMutual Ventures, Mark Goodman, along with Eric Emmons and Doug Russell, manages MassMutual Ventures investment portfolio. Before joining MassMutual Ventures, he was the Founder and General Partner of Terawatt Ventures, a venture capital firm focusing on technology innovation in sustainability, cybersecurity and hardware. Prior to that, he was a Partner at Brookline Venture Partners, a venture capital firm which he co-founded in 2004. Under his leadership, the firm achieved competitive returns during historically challenging years for the venture capital asset class. Mr. Goodman has worked closely with portfolio companies on strategy, business development, restructurings and exits. He is a Board Observer at Recorded Future and Tamr.
Mr. Goodman began his career at First Chicago (now part of Chase Bank), where he gained broad experience in corporate finance, capital markets and credit analysis. During his academic career, he was a Lecturer in Philosophy at Boston College and in Liberal Arts at Emerson College.
Mr. Goodman was appointed by President Obama to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council in 2010. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Temple Israel of Boston.
Mr. Goodman received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and philosophy, Phi Beta Kappa, from Emory University, and earned his Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He also holds a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in philosophy from Boston College.
As a Senior Associate at MassMutual Ventures, Charles Svirk assists the three Managing Directors, Doug Russel, Eric Emmons, and Mark Goodman, in sourcing potential investment opportunities and the management of the existing investment portfolio.
Prior to joining MassMutual Ventures, Mr. Svirk served as an Investment Associate at Clear Brook Advisors, advising on $1.3B in assets on fund investments in venture capital, private equity, hedge funds, and other illiquid strategies.
Before Clear Brook Advisors, Mr. Svirk co-founded Photos to Photos, Inc., an angel-backed mobile gaming studio located in Boston. Prior to that, Inc., Mr. Svirk served as an Associate at Siemens Venture Capital, where he helped support and source investments in Healthcare.
Mr. Svirk graduated cum laude from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, concentrating in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
David Gertner is a Senior Associate at MassMutual Ventures where he works closely with the Managing Directors to source and execute investment opportunities and manage the existing portfolio.
Prior to joining MassMutual Ventures, Mr. Gertner served as an Associate at FTV Capital, a $2.7B technology growth equity firm, where he focused on sourcing, evaluating, and executing investments across the financial technology and enterprise software sectors. Before FTV, Mr. Gertner worked in investment banking at Portico Capital, where he focused on advising growth-stage tech-enabled services, software, and financial technology companies.
Mr. Gertner graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics.
As a Associate at MassMutual Ventures, Marybeth Egan assists the team in sourcing potential investment opportunities and managing the existing investment portfolio.
Prior to joining MassMutual Ventures, Ms. Egan served as an Associate at KKR & Co., advising on investments in hedge funds and co-investments in illiquid opportunities. Before KKR, Ms. Egan was a senior investment analyst at Prudential Capital Group, the private debt arm of PGIM.
Ms. Egan graduated with highest honors from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and is a CFA charterholder.
Christine McGilvray joined MassMutual Ventures in Fall 2015 and serves as our Executive Liaison, where she delivers support for our MMV Team. She is responsible for maintaining our Managing Directors daily schedules, meeting arrangements, travel arrangements and ad hoc team requests.
Prior to joining MassMutual Ventures, Ms. McGilvray served as Executive Assistant most recently at McKinsey & Company as a floater Executive Assistant to Partners and Sr. Partners; at The Parthenon Group-EY — EA to the Chief Economist and Co Chief Economist; and at Bain Capital — EA to the Sr. VP and Controller of Finance and back up support to the Finance Shared Service CFO & CIO.
Ms. McGilvray holds a BSBA from Eastern Nazarene College 1995. On her off time, she spends time with family and friends. She is also an avid sailor both PHRF racing and most recently cruising.

Managing Director, Southeast Asia
Ryan is a Managing Director at MassMutual Ventures SEA, based in Singapore. Together with Anvesh Ramineni he is responsible for investments in Southeast Asia.Prior to joining MMV SEA, Ryan was Head of Asia at Manulife’s LOFT incubator, researching and developing new business models and technologies in insurance and investment services.
Before LOFT, Ryan was Asia Managing Director at Essentia Analytics, a data analytics SaaS company that helps professional investors to mitigate behavioral bias, optimize investment processes and continuously improve performance.
Formerly an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs based in Tokyo and Hong Kong, Ryan has advised on and executed multiple capital markets transactions across the Asia-Pacific region.
Ryan holds a BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Psychology with research in cognitive neuroscience and behavioral economics.
Managing Director, Southeast Asia
Anvesh is a Managing Director at MassMutual Ventures SEA, based in Singapore. Together with Ryan Collins he is responsible for investments in Southeast Asia. Prior to joining MMV SEA, Anvesh was Head of the Investments Team at OpenSpace Ventures (formerly NSI Ventures), Singapore, where he was a founding member of the firm and led investments in 12 companies.
Before OpenSpace, he was a TMT investment banker at Citigroup Global Markets in Hong Kong, where he worked on strategic financial advisory mandates and executed marquee M&A and capital markets transactions across Asia.
Anvesh holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering, and an MBA with a concentration in Finance.
